Sometimes when you’re traveling and working remotely, it can be difficult to balance work time and adventure time, which is why we always look for the best coworking spaces in Istanbul so we can get some real work done on our travels.
One of the reasons we love Istanbul so much is that it’s very digital nomad friendly. It has a growing community of remote workers and digital nomads, making it a place where you can find a community when you’re living life on the road.
It also offers a unique blend of modern amenities and rich history, so when you’re not working, you will find you’re never bored here. It’s an attractive destination for those seeking a work-life balance while equally exploring a new culture and city.
But we can’t all get work done in a cafe or in the solitude of an apartment, so when you need to get out to a space that makes you feel productive and also meet like-minded individuals, consider the following coworking spaces…
What to look for in a coworking space?
Before we dive into the best coworking space in Istanbul, here’s a list of requirements to consider when looking for a coworking space.
Location
Consider the proximity of the coworking space to public transportation in Istanbul, parking, and other nearby amenities such as restaurants, cafes, and shops.
When you go out on your lunch break, you don’t want to travel far for food. You might also find the coworking space has a livelier atmosphere when it’s located near tourist attractions and important landmarks.
You may also want to be within walking distance of your hotel, but this comes down to personal preference. Istanbul is very easy to get around, but you still might not want to spend all day on public transport.
Facilities
Look out for basic facilities like fast Wi-Fi, printing services, conference rooms, and shared office equipment. Also, check if they provide free coffee, tea, or snacks, which of course is a bonus.
Some coworking spaces in major cities have extra amenities such as communal kitchens for cooking, bike storage, shower facilities, and lockers.
Community
One of the biggest drawbacks to the digital nomad lifestyle is that it can get quite lonely. For some people, having a community of other remote workers is essential.
It can sometimes be hard to know whether there is a community aspect of the coworking space, but one way we can get an idea of this is by seeing if there are lounge areas or spaces for people to meet.
If the coworking space typically only has desks, then it’s likely not going to have a social atmosphere. Places with couches, bean bags, or spaces designed for hanging out, then it’s likely going to attract people who want to connect with other remote workers.
You can also check if there are frequent meetups, social events, or networking opportunities.
Noise level
If the idea of choosing a coworking space is to be productive and you need to eliminate the distractions, consider the noise level of the coworking space.
Some coworking spaces have large, open areas which can get noisy. Likewise check to see if they play music or have large communal spaces where there is a likelihood of people talking loudly.
If you prefer a quiet environment, opt for a coworking space that has separate rooms or booths available.
Price
Make sure the coworking space fits your budget. Some spaces offer different tiers of membership, so you can choose one that best suits your needs.
Security
Check if the coworking space has secure access, surveillance cameras, and whether you can leave your belongings safely. Istanbul is safe, but you can never be too careful with your electronics and important belongings.
Flexibility
Look for a flexible coworking space that can accommodate your changing needs. This includes flexible lease options, 24/7 access, and the ability to add guests.
You may also want to check if there is a daily rate as opposed to a contract, as you might not want to visit every day.
