Marmaris is a popular holiday destination on the Turkish Riviera, and is known for its beautiful beaches, seaside historic town, vibrant nightlife, and sunny resorts.

It’s one of the most visited seaside towns in Turkey and is easily accessible from Dalaman Airport, and Milas-Bodrum Airport, which are two airports that you can fly direct into from many major European cities.

So which airport should you fly into? In this guide, we’ll share which not only which is the closest airport to Marmaris, but which is the best one to fly into so you can enjoy this vacation quickly and effortlessly!

What Is The Closest Airport To Marmaris?

Because Marmaris does not have its own airport, the closest airport to Marmaris is actually Dalaman International Airport (DLM), approximately 90 km (56 mi) away. Another airport near Marmaris is Milas–Bodrum Airport (BJV), which is located 130 km (81 mi) away.

From Dalaman Airport, it takes approximately 1.5 hours to 1.75 hours to get to Marmaris by driving. On the other hand, it takes about 2 hours to get from Milas–Bodrum Airport to Marmaris.

Not only is Dalaman Airport is closer to Marmaris, it’s also serviced by direct domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara, as well as major cities in Europe such as Paris and London.

Getting from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris is also easy – you have your choice between private transfers, shuttles, taxis, several rental car companies, or a direct airport shuttle bus.

If you decide to fly into Milas–Bodrum Airport, although only an additional 9km distance, there is no direct airport shuttle to Marmaris. Travelers will have to get a private transfer, taxi, rental car, or two buses to get to Marmaris. If you are going by public transportation, this can seriously delay your journey or be very expensive!

But if you have a private transfer arrangement already or you’re prepared to drive, it doesn’t make a big difference in time whether you arrive at Milas–Bodrum Airport or Dalaman Airport. For ease and convenience though, Dalaman Airport is better.

How To Get From Dalaman Airport To Marmaris?

1. Private Airport Transfer

The easiest way to get from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris is by booking a private Marmaris airport transfer.

There are many companies that offer private transfers, and the prices vary depending on the vehicle type and the company you use. The journey usually takes 1.5 hours to 1.75 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

A private transfer is perfect for those who want a hassle-free transfer and don’t mind spending a bit more for convenience.

This is especially the case if you arrive late at night, since the buses don’t start operating until 8.00am. We encountered this issue when we arrived at 4.00am in Dalaman, and found the only way to get to Marmaris at this hour was an airport transfer. There weren’t even public taxis available.

2. Havas or Muttas Airport Shuttle and Bus

Havas Airport Shuttle at Dalaman Airport

Havas bus and Muttas are the official airport shuttles of Dalaman Airport. They offer a direct bus service from the airport to Marmaris, which takes about 1.5 hours to 2 hours. This is a great option for those who don’t want to spend too much money on transfers.

However, it is worth noting that their departure times are timed to domestic arrivals. If you are coming from abroad, there won’t be an airport shuttle to Marmaris waiting for you, and you might have to wait till a domestic flight arrives.

This means that if you arrive at night time, or early in the morning, you will have to wait until 8.00am – 9.00am for the first bus to arrive.

📖 Note: The bus leaves whenever they are full or at their scheduled departure time. If there are a lot of people at the airport, you might not be able to get on the Havas or Muttas airport buses and have to wait for the next one.

You can pay cash or card on both the Havas airport shuttle and the Muttas airport bus.

The buses go directly from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris Otogar, where you can catch a small minibus into town!

3. Rental Car

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of public transport and don’t mind spending a bit more, then getting a rental car is a great option.

Dalaman Airport has several rental car companies with multiple choices available for travelers.

There are many benefits to renting a car in this region of Turkey. Not only is it the easiest option for getting to Marmaris, but you also get to explore other hidden gems that might be hard to get to, and let me tell you, there are tons!

We use DiscoverCars whenever we are renting a car in Turkey. It aggregates both international and local companies to give you the best deals!

We highly recommend you book your rental car before you travel, especially if your flight arrives late at night or early. Although most rental car operators at Dalaman Airport have 24/7 services, we’ve found that unless they are expecting you, they will close.

If they are aware of you landing out of hours, they may be able to make arrangements for you.

4. Taxi

The last option to get from Dalaman Airport to Marmaris is with a taxi. This is the most common way for travelers to get to Marmaris if they have not done any planning ahead of time and don’t mind splurging.

And if you are reading this, then it is unlikely to be you.

Although an option, we don’t recommend it. Taxi drivers in Turkey are notorious for ripping travelers off, and taking them on scenic routes or “getting lost.” They are also priced by the meter, which is very expensive. Well, taxis are supposed to use a meter, but many don’t to scam tourists.

However, if you do find yourself in a situation where a taxi is the only choice, there will always be some taxis waiting outside of the airport (except in the early hours of the morning). You should expect to pay considerably more than if you have pre-arranged a transfer.

So be extra cautious when taking a taxi, we’ve had only bad experiences with them in Turkey.
